The ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (PDF) scheme aims to provide a career development opportunity for those in the immediately postdoctoral stage of their career, to provide the opportunity to consolidate their PhD through developing publications, their networks, and their research and professional skills.  ESRC-funded Postdoctoral Fellowships can be based at any of the WRDTP partner institutions.   The White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership has been awarded four Postdoctoral Fellowships per year, over the next five years.

As in previous years, the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership will be running an Expression of Interest stage.  The fellows must be located on an accredited WRDTP interdisciplinary pathway and have completed their PhD at a research organisation in the UK. Applicants are not required to have previously held an ESRC-funded studentship in order to be eligible to apply.

To be eligible applicants must:

  • Have been awarded a PhD or have passed their viva voce with minor amendments by the application deadline of 16 May 2024 and have been awarded their PhD by the fellowship start date of 1 October 2024
  • Have no more than 12 months of active postdoctoral experience.  This is measured from the applicant’s viva voce pass date to the application deadline of 16 May 2024
  • Plan to base themselves in an ESRC WRDTP accredited department or school
The deadline to submit an expression of interest is 5pm on Friday 22 March 2024.
The application deadline for full-stage candidates is 4pm on Thursday 16 May 2024.

The ESRC guidance documents and WRDTP EOI forms are available to applicants on the WRDTP website and are also linked below:
