Hello my name is Camilla and I have recently been appointed to a new post of Engagement Officer within the Leeds Social Sciences Institute (LSSI). In this role I will take a lead on supporting the policy and public engagement activities of the LSSI in addition to fostering enhanced relations with the business community, acting as the main point of contact from the LSSI in regards to these endeavours.

Through the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) we have some funds to support the development of this work which I will be helping to manage. To this end, you can contact me if you are interested in engaging with local, national or even international policy communities or are keen to explore opportunities for research-informed public engagement. I will also be responsible for organising engagement-facing workshops, events, developmental opportunities and networking activities to support academics, so I warmly invite any suggestions, thoughts or queries in this regard.

I am very excited to be joining the LSSI team at a time of such innovation and expansion as international links are being developed and new engagement opportunities with external partners opening up. Furthermore, I am passionate about the application of research in policy and practice having worked previously in The School of Education in Child and Family Poverty research and seen first-hand how valuable and crucial engagement with these external partners is in order to make steps towards affecting social change. I very much look forward to bringing my existing knowledge and experience of working in academia to this role supporting the LSSI, the newly established Policy Leeds initiative, and academic staff in their endeavours to foster dialogue, engagement and knowledge exchange with the aim of enhancing research impact.

You can reach Camilla via email on c.j.mccartney@leeds.ac.uk or by phone on 0113 34 30965.
