Public Engagement

Public Engagement for LGBTQ+ Inclusive Fieldwork will aim to:

a) Develop and disseminate the first-ever advocacy video (completion in May 2022) addressing LGBTQ+ inclusion in fieldwork contexts. It will outline the key findings and recommendations of the PIF project, and act as an accessible, free-to-use and engaging resource. A bespoke impact strategy including two key interactive workshops will ensure that the video, and other project resources, will be shared and utilised through the networks of the partner organisation, LGBTQ+ Field Network, and wider stakeholders with an interest in LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

b) Promote public understanding of social science research by clearly and accessibly highlighting the key findings of the PIF project, drawing on original social science research from multiple disciplines to address the main challenges LGBTQ+ researchers, practitioners, and activists face in fieldwork settings. The activity critically emphasises the value of social science research to address discrimination, persecution, violence, and hostility towards LGBTQ+ identified people in diverse social settings.

c) Enhance the impact of PIF’s work by developing an accessible and engaging advocacy video that will be easily shareable. This activity ensures a greater degree of saleability considering that such audio-visual content will effectively complement textual resources produced throughout the project, promising greater scope for impact in the mid-to-long term.
