Internationalisation

Forging strategic research partnerships around the globe to foster learning

A key objective of LSSI is to develop international research links and build collaborative partnerships with a view to enhancing research impact and share best practice on effect support for interdisciplinary social science research.  As a dynamic, outward-facing institute, LSSI’s internationalisation agenda includes directly forging our own international partnerships, as well as supporting social scientists at Leeds with international impact through the Impact Acceleration Account (IAA).

Our strategic LSSI international partnerships focus on similar interdisciplinary social science organisations where bilateral collaborations and exchanges might prove mutually valuable.

We have established partnerships with the Institute for Social Science Research at the University of Queensland (ISSR), and the Instituto de Investigaciones Gino Germani in the Faculty of Social Sciences (IGG) at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Like the LSSI, the ISSR and IIGG both work towards promoting transformational, interdisciplinary, and solution-based research that tackles societal challenges and with a focus on co-production and co-design.

Deputy Director of LSSI, Professor Sahla Aroussi is LSSI lead on internationalisation.  If you would like to find out more, please contact Sahla on s.aroussi@leeds.ac.uk.

Recent Activities

Institute for Social Sciences, University of Queensland

In February 2023, LSSI Deputy Director Dr Kate Pangbourne visited the University of Queensland with colleagues from the School of Politics and International Studies and from the University of Glasgow. This trip focused on research into social disadvantage and inequality, and how co-production methods can be used when designing future research collaborations and grant submissions. Instituto de Investigaciones Gino Germani, University of Buenos Aires

In December 2022, LSSI, in collaboration with the Instituto de Investigaciones Gino Germani (IIGG) in Buenos Aires, have supported 7 pump prime projects involving researchers at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Leeds. Following an online workshop to connect researchers from both organisations and support collaborative project ideas the call for proposals was well received. These projects will catalyse the development of collaborative research proposals to be submitted to high-esteem funders, generate collaborative research outputs, or support the collaborative delivery of impact-related activities.
