Event Description

While automation could provide added value for both the private and public sectors, it is likely to pose immense challenges to Leeds City Region’s economy in the near future. It is predicted that 30% of UK jobs are at risk of automation in the next few decades, particularly in the post-industrial reality of West Yorkshire. Whilst mainstream economic measures have shown to be incapable of providing more inclusive policies, technological advancements could constitute an opportunity – rather than a source of anxiety- to build a more sustainable society.

This event aims to gather innovative thinkers and practitioners for civic debate: to strategize how new technologies can be used to further a more just distribution of wealth and encourage fairer, more sustainable inclusive growth in the Leeds City Region. This one-day event will combine talks, discussions and breakout sessions and will provide an opportunity to engage with a unique network of Researchers, institutions and businesses for further collaboration. We hope that the event will provide a platform for constructive discussions about the future of the Yorkshire region.
