Professor Gerard McCormack presents: Major changes to UK's corporate restructuring and insolvency laws and implications for pension schemes

In this presentation, Gerard will introduce major changes to the UK's corporate restructuring and insolvency laws in the long and short-term and highlight the impact of this on the position of defined benefit pension schemes and the Pension Protection Fund (PPF). Gerard will highlight how some changes are time limited and an immediate response to the Covid-19 crisis whereas others are designed to be more permanent and bring UK law more into line with Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code. Gerard will present why these changes have been considered problematic and reflect on implications for policy and practice, in particular around why regulatory amendments may be necessary to improve the lot of the PPF and scheme members.

The event is part of the Linking Leeds seminar series, which provides the opportunity to hear from leading social science researchers as well as make connections with analysts, strategists and policy makers from the Department for Work and Pensions and other organisations.
