Join us for the highly anticipated discussion of How We Get Our Future Back by Torsten Bell, Labour MP for Swansea West. Bell has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary in HM Treasury and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Work and Pensions. This Sunday Times Bestseller is a compelling and hopeful blueprint for a better Britain, offering bold solutions to the pressing challenges of inequality and economic stagnation.
Described as “brilliant, incredibly pragmatic” by Rory Stewart and “refreshingly optimistic” by The Times, this book is a must-read for anyone passionate about building a fairer, more prosperous society.
Torsten was the former Chief Executive of the Resolution Foundation (2015-2024), an economic research charity working to raise the living standards of households on low to middle incomes. Prior to leading the Resolution Foundation, he worked in HM Treasury, as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers during the financial crisis, and as Director of Policy for the Labour Party (2010-2015). He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, trustee of the Child Poverty Action Group and an Honorary Professor at University College London. He has a weekly column in The Observer.
Leeds Social Sciences Institute (LSSI) is committed to engaging with the UK Parliament and policy influencers. This event is particularly important given the significant economic challenges the country is currently facing. By hosting Torsten Bell MP, LSSI aims to contribute to the discourse on building a fairer, more prosperous society.
