Inclusive Playscapes: Designing Accessible and Inclusive Public Play Spaces in Leeds
The Research England Policy Fund will support the ‘Inclusive Playscapes: Designing Accessible and Inclusive Public Play Spaces in Leeds ' project. Professor Gehan Selim, with Dr Katie McQuaid are leading a project to conduct evidence-based research that addresses a gap in understanding the inclusivity of play space design for all children and different age groups. The team is partnering with Leeds City Council to develop policy guidelines and recommendations for play space design. It also complements the LCC community development initiative' Leeds Play Sufficiency' introduced in 2023.
Professor Gehan Selim said;
It's a delight to partner with Leeds City Council and support the Leeds Play Sufficiency's amazing work. This project will form a significant milestone in our extended collaborative work, laying the groundwork for navigating effective policies and strategies to foster inclusive communities in Leeds.
The team will investigate the existing play design knowledge to obtain diverse user insights. This work is a significant contribution to LCC's efforts in developing Leeds City inclusive, well-planned spaces that benefit all generations and not just children. It is a testament to our commitment to the 'Best City's Ambitions' to build a healthier, fairer, greener Leeds and make a real difference in our community.
